Egg ‘n You…been around since 1956 and as diners go, and we have gone to several in Ft Lauderdale, and come from a diner city (Philly) this is a true gem. We have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and while it is diner food, it is the highest quality. What does that mean for a diner, which is more a class of restaurants known for fast service, standard meals and homey, casual service and decor. You walk in the door and immediately feel welcome.
Just because a diner is at the low-end of price, the details of it’s “dining tribe” are no less important. And while you set your standars to the type of dining experiecne, you should not feel a diner is a lower order place to eat. It’s jsut different. The place has to be clean, not greasy or overrun feeling. The food is made with a sense of pride and quality; the service is friendly, assumes you are in a hurry and is attentive without being annoying.
The name is a big clue to what to order: eggs. In ANY form they are going to come out perfect. True of the pancakes, french toast, bacon, coffee…a breakfast delight.
As for lunch, sandwiches — chicken salad, tuna, burger, fries, great cole slaw, turkey club…the menu has at least three categories for sandwiches alone. On route 1, near Oakland Blvd, it can easily be missed; but don’t, go there, enjoy. Honest, simple, friendly and you just want to smack your lips as you leave, walk into the Florida sun and say, “Man, that was good.”
