Lisbon, Clube de Jornalistas: The great disconnect! Amazing interior but disappointing food!

Newly arrived in Lisbon, the concierge recommended the Clube; and after a short sunset stroll, we arrived to a welcoming host with an interior beautifully dedicated to journalism — old typewriters, displayed newspapers, on and on; it was like a museum and so fascinating we kept hesitating on the way to our table to take it in.

They seated us behind the building, in a well-dressed back courtyard, with airy white canvas umbrellas.

BUT, while the atmosphere was unique and engaging, the food was not.

Frankly, the recommended wine (strong body) was too sharp; the waiter was a bit ambivalent about what to recommend. We could see he was trying his best to feel us out, but it came off as indecisive.

The steak was…good, but not worth the money.

The risotto was wet and sticky, not boiled or stirred enough. In fact, we barely ate it.

When the check came, we could not wait to leave. It was a better homage to the greatness of journalism than it was to food!
