Ireland is a Land of Legends. The modern and the Neolithic live in close proximity. The tales of giants and warriors, lovers and spirits fluidly intertwine. In so many ways, the vibrant history of the Irish (pre-British colonization) is core to their character and a vital part of their present. Few places hold more of this than Sligo.
Recently, on a visit to Sligo, along the Ireland’s Northwest Wild Atlantic Way, the leader of a unique and very helpful Sligo Ambassadors, Sean Cunningham, took us on a personal tour of the beauty and legends…and regaled us, with wit and kindness, of some of the legends around Sligo. If these videos and his commentary don’t inspire you to visit…
This last video is a look at Lord Mountbatten’s former castle residence. He was the most senior British Royal killed by the IRA.
As for the Sligo Ambassadors: having been to Dublin, Galway, Cork, Killarney…they would be wise to consider duplicating the Sligo program.
Opine on many things people love about Ireland — but it always comes back to the people. Fortune favored us by meeting someone who not only presented the best of Sligo, Ireland, but the best of the Irish. Thank you, Sean Cunningham.
SPECIAL THANKS to Doug Zajaczkowski, professional videographer and editor supreme from Philadelphia, PA, USA. His work was incredible. Sly ability to capture the little moments that can be so big.
